The Honorary Consulate is available to assist local businesses with their Mauritanian ventures. The Honorary Consulate will assist with your queries and facilitate inter-actions between Islamic Republic of Mauritania and the Province of Alberta. However, the Honorary Consulate of Alberta is not authorized to issue official documentation such as visas for travel to Mauritania , Mauritania Passports , or authentication of Documents.

Important Notice: Visa issuance is now done by the Mauritania Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York and not by the Honorary Consulate in Montreal.

The Islamic Republic of Mauritania is a multiracial nation in north west Africa. Its official name is the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. It can be seen as a link between the Arab Africa of the north and sub-Saharan Africa of the south.It is a member of the Arab league and its Arab roots go back to the 11th Century when Mauritanians were converted to Islam. Arabic was then adopted as the official language after the Arab conquest of the 16th Century. It was ruled by France from 1903 and became an independent nation in 1960.

The population of 3 million speak Arabic (official), French, various tribal languages.
